BioticMatter recommends clean beauty and personal care products based on research, not personal testing. Here is exactly what that means before you read anything else on this site
How we’re different from a “tested” review site
Some sites buy every product they cover and test it themselves for weeks. We don’t, not yet, and we won’t pretend otherwise. Instead, every recommendation on BioticMatter is built from:
- Published ingredient safety data. We check formulations against the EWG Skin Deep database and INCI ingredient listings for known irritants, endocrine disruptors, and flagged concerns.
- Verified third-party certifications. We look for Leaping Bunny (cruelty-free), COSMOS (organic/natural), and EWG Verified marks, and we check that a certification is actually current, not just claimed on packaging.
- Regulatory and scientific sources. For claims like “reef-safe” or “mineral vs. chemical,” we cite the actual regulations (NOAA, state bans) and dermatological or environmental research behind them, not marketing copy.
- Real customer feedback. We read verified buyer reviews on retailer and brand sites to flag recurring complaints about texture, scent, breakouts, or packaging, and factor that into what we recommend.
What we don’t do
We don’t buy products and test them hands-on, and we don’t claim to. If you see a line on this site like “we tried this for 30 days,” that’s a mistake and we want to know about it, it shouldn’t be there. Where hands-on testing would genuinely change a recommendation, we say so and frame the piece as research-based rather than a verdict.
Who writes this
Articles are researched and written by the BioticMatter crew, a small team, not one named reviewer with invented credentials. We’re not licensed dermatologists or toxicologists, and nothing here is medical advice. If you have a skin condition or known sensitivities, check with a dermatologist before trying a new product.
How we choose what to cover
We prioritize products and brands that are independently certified, widely available, and relevant to the specific question a reader is searching for, not the products that pay the highest commission. See our affiliate disclosure for how we’re compensated.
Corrections
Ingredient lists and certifications change. If you spot something outdated or wrong, contact us and we’ll fix it, we’d rather be corrected than stay wrong.
